North West 200

For three days in May the public roads that link the towns of Portstewart, Portrush & Coleraine are closed to everyday traffic and become home to Northern Ireland’s biggest & most spectacular event…The Vauxhall International North West 200 Road Races.

Being the first of the big three meetings (North West 200, IoM TT & Ulster Grand Prix), the event invariably attracts all the World’s best ‘roads’ racers to battle it between the hedges, walls & kerb’s of the daunting 8.9 miles high speed circuit – the circuit that to road racing enthusiasts the world over is known simply as ‘The Triangle’.

Annually the event becomes a magnet to ‘pure roads’ enthusiasts, attracting vast numbers of fans to the region, some estimates claiming numbers up to 100,000, who are drawn toward the picturesque Causeway Coast to line every vantage point to witness riders dicing shoulder to shoulder at speeds oft times approaching, if not exceeding, 200mph!

And by virtue of it’s long winding ‘straights’, including the 2 mile run from the breathtaking 150mph Station Corner up to University Corner, along with the equally long return run back toward the Coast Road at Portrush the circuit, like no other, gives rise to amazing ‘slipstreaming’ overtakes.

The NW 200 meeting’s a must to visit for any two wheeled racing fan. It’s like no other – you won’t be disappointed!
