Celebrating it’s 70th anniversary this year, Olivers Mount is the location of England’s only ‘natural’ road race track.
Often referred to as the ‘miniture TT’ course, and not without cause, the track is set imposingly on high ground overlooking the seaside resort of Scarborough, North Yorkshire.
Equally for race fans the surrounding hillside offers the bonus of magnificent natural viewing with the race bikes oft times circulating only yards away. No need for binoculars here!!
Historically, the public roads circuit has attracted numerous World Champions, whilst today the current cream of the world’s best road racers, including TT winners galore, come to battle it out over the 2.43 mile narrow & twisty track.
Olivers Mount was one of the great Barry Sheene’s favourite circuits, whilst Mick Grant always believed Scarborough to be one of the best events of the year.
The list of former race winners is a pure ‘who’s who’ of motorcycle racing, including….Duke, Surtees, McIntyre, Hailwood, Read, Agostini, Saarinen, Andersson, Katayama, O’Dell, Taylor, Gardner, Dunlop, Hislop, Fogarty…the list just goes on!
Now today with a resurgence of interest in pure ‘road’ racing, crowds of race fans again flock to Olivers Mount – so much so, what price another 70 years of racing by the seaside!
The four events scheduled for 2016 are;
16/17 April Spring Cup Bob Smith Trophy
18/19 June Cock O’The Northern
23/24 July Barry Sheene Races
24/25 Sept Steve Henshaw Int. Gold Cup
