Be Wiser PBM Ducati
Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne, reinforced his record of being the most successful rider in the 21 year history of the British Superbike Championship, when he defied the odds last October, to win Title number 6.
It was by his own admission….. ‘The toughest, yet most rewarding to date!’
Indeed ‘The Shakester’ had to overturn a mountainous 33 point deficit going into the final Brands Hatch triple header.
At that stage, it looked to be mission impossible, with few, if any of his most ardent of fans giving him much of a chance of pulling it off.
As it transpired ‘Shakey’ proved victorious having executed an escape the great Harry Houdini would have been proud of.
….thus proving the well versed phrase…It ain’t over till it’s over!!!!!!!!!
Team owner, Cumbrian chicken magnate, Paul Bird, decided they would switch to Italian Ducati factory V twins for 2016 season, a decision immediately vindicated as Byrne went on to claim the BSB Crown.
Never shy in speaking his mind, ‘Birdy’ runs a slickly organized operation & surrounded by a loyal team has the distinction of being the most successful team owner ever, in the history of BSB, with a record eleven British or National Championship winning trophies already in the cabinet.
Unsurprisingly it’s as you were for 2018, with both ‘Shakey’ and Glen Irwin staying put as the ‘Be Wiser PBM Ducati jockeys.
Carrickfergus based Irwin, will be hoping for an injury free 2018 (last season plagued with troublesome shoulder & elbow injury from Knockhill onwards). As a minimum will be targeting a place in the ‘Showdown’.
So the question is, can ‘Shakey’ make it Title number 7?
………you wouldn’t bet against it!
