Be Wiser PBM Ducati
Paul Bird’s ‘Be Wiser Ducati’ team continue to set the benchmark as Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne, the most successful rider in the 20 year history of the championship, raised his personal tally to an incredible five BSB titles following a fiercely contested 2016 campaign.
Never one to bulk at doing the unexpected, ‘The Birdman ‘s’ decision to switch from Kawasaki to reunite with Ducati machinery for 2016 was fully vindicated as his Cumbrian based team came out tops, again, bringing their winning total to ten British or National Championships!
“It was something I really wanted” stated Paul, “to get us back on the Italian V twins, having previously won the BSB Title with both Steve Hislop & ‘Shakey’ back in 2002 & 2003”
It was a fantastic team effort. From starting with a ‘blank sheet of paper’
concerning development of the new Panigale, they now have a valuable bank of data, which should enable an even more competitive 2017 season.
Not surprisingly the successful relationship between the ‘Boss’ and Byrne continues into the sixth consecutive year, with but one target …..To Retain the Title!
Whilst Glenn Irwin following an encouraging Rookie Superbike year (which included a couple of podiums), remains as Shakey’s wingman.
For Carrickfergus based Irwin, the plan is equally straightforward. Be more consistent, build on the experience of last year, and ………..get into the ‘Showdown’ phase.
