It’s not difficult to understand why Sam Lowes is so popular with the race fans around the world – and it’s not just his charismatic smile that captures their attention!
First & foremost Sam is fast, very fast, together with a style of riding that is truly ‘edge of the seat’ exciting. Invariably being totally sideways on corner entry – the fans simply can’t get enough of it.
Lincolnshire born, but currently Derbyshire based, 25 year old Sam, the elder of the Lowes twins (seeing the light of day just 2 minutes before Alex), has a proven record of success.
British Supersport Champion in 2010, he then headed to the World Arena, where in 2013 riding for the Russian Yaknich Yamaha Team, 6 race victories & 5 second places were more than enough to see him crowned the FIM World Supersport Champion.
Following a couple of difficult years riding with the Moto2 Speed Up Team, Sam this year moves to Fausto Gresini’s Federal Oil Kalex Squad.
On his day, Sam undoubtedly has the beating of any rider on the grid, and if all goes according to plan this 2016 season, he is more than capable of adding the Moto2 World Title to his CV.
Either way, 2017 will see ‘Sideways Sam’ heading to Moto GP as one of the two riders in the Gresini run Official Factory Aprilia line up – now that is a mouth watering prospect!
Incidentally the Lowes Twins trade mark number 22 goes back to 2002 when he & Alex as 11 year olds started racing. Mum Donna, & dad Stuart, used the 22 (ie 2 times 11) for the twins, calling the team ………Double Vision Racing!
