2017 is a massively exciting year for Sam Lowes as the 2013 World Supersport Champion seeks to assert himself in the Premier class of racing.
Having served a 3 season apprenticeship in Moto2 (finishing 4th overall in 2015, and 5th overall last year), Sam becomes the latest ‘Brit’ to take his place on the Moto GP grid following a deal to ride for ‘Aprilia Racing Team Gresini’ alongside his more experienced Spanish team mate Aleix Espargaro.
As a class ‘rookie’, the task ahead for Sam is daunting, and it will be essential that he adapts his oft times spectacular ‘sideways’ riding style of the Moto2 machine to suite the 240+ horse power RS-GP Aprilia, as quickly as possible.
There is no doubting the boy is talented & fast. He knows the circuits and his confidence will undoubtedly grow, and his results improve, the more the bike develops as the season progresses.
The boss, Fausto Gresini has every confidence in his ability – and rightly so — as witness the two year MotoGP contract.
It’s exciting times ahead for the Lincolnshire born, Derby domiciled racer, who will as ever carry his cherished race number 22 plate.
You can guarantee Sam will be intent on giving his numerous race fans plenty to cheer about during 2017.
(Lowes twins trade mark number 22 goes back to 2002 when he & Alex as 11 year olds started racing. Mum Donna, & dad Stuart, requested the 22 (ie 2 times 11) for the twins, calling the team….Double Vision Racing!)
