Tech 3 Yamaha
With a history dating back to 1989, the Team has enjoyed a long & successful collaboration with Yamaha, and are one of the most experienced in Moto GP.
Herve Poncharal, one of the three original founders, continues as owner & team manager, whilst the riders remain as per the past two seasons, being Andorra based, Oxfordshire boy Bradley Smith, alongside Spain’s Pol Espargaro.
Runner Up in the 2009 125cc World Chapionships, Smith remains with the Moto GP team for the fourth consecutive year. Finishing 6th overall in the 2015 series, he was for the second year running the best placed British rider and was also only one of two riders to score points at all 18 races ( other being Valentino Rossi), which included his best Moto GP result to date – 2nd at the San Marino event.
Having won the Moto 2 World Title in 2013, Pol Espargaro ( the younger of the two racing brothers) remains in the Monster Yamaha Tech 3 Moto GP squad for third term. Despite a trio of 5th place finishes last year, 4 crashes along the way resulted in a disappointing final overall placing of 9th last year. Away from the GP’s, Smith & Espargaro teamed up to win the 2015 Suzuka 8 hour Endurance Race – giving Yamaha it’s first win of the event since 1996.
