New for 2019, and possessing one of the prettiest looking livery’s on the grid, the ‘PETRONAS Yamaha Sepang Racing Team’ have the distinction of being the first ever Malaysian outfit to contest the Premier Class. They are also the sole satellite representative for the Japanese manufacturer this season.
Interestingly the team have opted for two emerging talents as riders for the new project. Highly rated Italian Franco Morbidelli, joins MotoGP class newcomer, Fabio Quartararo.
A protege of a certain Valentino Rossi, Morbidelli, has already displayed his abundant ability by winning the 2017 Moto2 World Championship. Last year progressing to MotoGP where after finishing 15th overall, (despite sitting out the races at Sachsenring & Brno with a broken hand), he was named ‘Rookie of the Year’
Franco could be one of the big surprises of this year. Make no mistake, he is good, very good & is only going to get better. A trip or two to the podium is very much on the cards.
Less will be expected of Frenchman Quartararo, who at 19 years of age (in April) is the youngest rider on the 2019 MotoGP grid. It’s a big step from Moto2, where he placed 10th overall last term. Highlights being
Pole & victory in Catalunya plus 2nd place at Assen.
